ANP 1107 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Muscularis Mucosae, Lamina Propria, Gastrointestinal Tract
Document Summary
Digestive system part 1: alimentary canal(gi tract): digests and absorbs food [mouth to anus] long path appx. 7-7. 5m. Oral cavity-pharynx-esophagus-stomach-small intestine-large intestine-anus: accessory digestive organs/structures: mechanical/chemical digestion/breaking down food. In mouth: teeth, tongue-forms bolus salivary glands, pancreas, liver, gallbladder. Longitudinal muscle: holds the bolus and help circular muscle for the food movement. Segmentation: not close segments/divided, with food moving forward and backward for the requirement. Other gi functions: nutrient production- vitamins synthesis by bacteria in intestine, neurotransmitters-acetylcholine(ach),serotonin hormones-gastrin, ghrelin . Peritoneum: serous membrane of the abdominopelvic cavity surrounds digestive organs. Visceral peritoneum: external surface -surrounds digestive organs attached to the wall. Peritoneal cavity: between 2 peritoneums have fluid to lubricate the organs and allow some protection. Mesentery-a double layer of peritoneum by serous membranes joined back to back. Retro(behind)peritoneal organs posterior to the peritoneum-the large intestine lose the mesentery. Intraperitoneal- in the peritoneum organs inside the peritoneum. 4 basic layers of the alimentary canal: mucosa, 2.
