Authority of children lies with the father or his elder brother or other senior males. Found in societies where men contribute bulk of subsistence production and/or where warfare is conflict common. Does not= matriarchal: i. e does not confer public authority on women; but women more control of resources & decision-making. Common where women perform much productive work. Sibling bond is strong- brothers & sisters have close ties. Both patrilineal & matrilineal ( for different purpose) Descent claimed from common ancestor but exact genealogical links unknown. Clan identification often reinforced by totems (symbolic identification) Often control marriage practices ( marriage clan exogamic- not suppose to marry someone in your clan) Lineage control identity, access to land a colour per clan- different colour corns block pest resistance to avoid then to infect all the corns, different on the climate ( dry & wet) certain corns can last longer.
