Extended family (during slavery the slaves were seen as an extension of family no matter their mistreatment) Rights and privileges of individuals are subordinate to the family group (the group needs each other to survive, all money/resources/individuals are vital to the survival of the group) Father has control over entire family (life, death, decision making etc. ) Disabled children: if unable to contribute to family (i. e. work, production, wealth or otherwise) were often killed, castrated or adopted out. Family has few constraints on the rights and privileges of individual members. Dad has control over everyone (has authority to kill, sell off, exile, marry off children, adopt children out etc. ) Father"s total control was not a class specific doing, happened all over the board (cross- class) All eccentric sexual acts/needs were performed outside of marriage, not with the wives. Monogamous in the sense that there was only one wife but it was very socially acceptable to have relations outside of marriage.
