APA 2111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Motor Skill, Error Detection And Correction, Environmental Design
Document Summary
Stages of motor learning (fitts & posner, 1967) Students confronted with cognitively- oriented problems, verbal motor stage. When students produce movement, they have no error detection capabilities (attend to one thing at a time) May need to give verbal cues/ idea of what the movement looks like, & determine how to sequence those cues. School have picked up basic fundamentals of motor skill. Focus on refining, give limited # of cues. Students are able to detect their errors, and are able to correct some errors with success (with practice) May benefit greatly from proper feedback from teachers (e. g. timing, sequence) Students able to detect own subtle errors and correct (to make proper adjustments to correct movements on trial-to-trial basis (find the sport that allows learners to apply skills in external environment) Information processing perspective on learning of motor skills. Stresses importance of internal cognitive processes of the learner. How learners select & store information is critical.
