(chapter 5) Lacrosse was a sport first played by natives. A means to connect them to their gods, ancestors, and nature. It was originally a pastime with spiritual, and familial connections. When the europeans came, they did not allow those of other cultures to play. This was to show their superiority, exhibit themselves as being more worthy , and in fear of being beaten. Baseball was played by americans first as a pastime, and rapidly involved into a business enterprise of sorts. The asahi were a radical group of sorts. Prior and through the period of wwii, they were marginalized in vancouver, and this team formed and pretty much ran through all other teams.
