Document Summary

When evaluating the body composition of an individual it is important to consider their fat mass rather than just their weight, because their fat mass is what is directly related to health risks (kyle, schutz, dupertuis. These health risks include; increased risk of diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension, morbidity and mortality (raman, 2002). Body composition is not only influenced by genetic and environmental factors, but also by physical activity and nutritional habits (marwaha, garg, tandon & mahalle, 2015). It is important for clinicians to know where an individual stores their fat, because fat stored around the visceral organs has a much greater risk for the individual compared to having increased levels of subcutaneous fat (raman, 2002). Body composition test that were performed during this lab were unable to provide information on where fat is stored inside the body but they still provide very valuable information for clinicians about body composition and percent body fat.
