Intrinsic motivation : engaging in a behaviour for its own sake, because you derive joy from it (self-determined) Extrinsic motivation : this involves doing an activity because it is instrumental. Act in a warm and caring manner. Involve parents in decision making and solution-finding processes. A persons sense of confidence in his other ability to perform a behaviour. The more individuals believe in their ability to perform an action, the more likely they are to initiate and persist in an activity. The less an individual believes in their ability to perform an action, the less likely they will expend effort, leading to a greater tendency to abandon carrying out a targeted behaviour. Self efficacy plays a major roles in the : adoption of physical activity behaviour. Individuals may not act when they perceive that they do not possess the appropriate skills to achieve the desired outcome. Perceived competence in performing a skill may be more important than actual competence.
