Here the poet of jahiliya is like satan whispering seductive verses in the ears of followers. Poet ka"b ibn zuhair (609-646: he was a pagan and was trained as a poet by his father zuhair bin abi solma. As late as 628, he composed poems criticizing those who converted and insulted mohammes. He later embraced islam and composed the first madih poe(cid:373), (cid:862)ba(cid:374)at ouad(cid:863). He (cid:396)e(cid:272)ited it i(cid:374) f(cid:396)o(cid:374)t of muha(cid:373)(cid:373)ed i(cid:374) 6(cid:1007)(cid:1005) a(cid:374)d. Muhammed was so moved that he removed his mantle (al-(cid:271)u(cid:396)da(cid:895) a(cid:374)d (cid:271)esto(cid:449)ed upo(cid:374) ka"(cid:271)"s shoulders. The poem became known as al-burda: title of poem is banat souad, lovely girl soused appeared to me but the __ poem was really a p(cid:396)aise of moha(cid:373)(cid:373)ed.
