Document Summary
Aerobic: related to or involving free oxygen, in aerobic respiration refers to the use of oxygen as the final electron acceptor. Anaerobic: does not require oxygen, uses another external electron acceptor such as sulfur, nitrate, or sulfate. Archaea: a domain which includes halophiles, methanogens, thermophiles, different from both bacteria and eukaryotes. Atp sythetase (synthase): enzyme that can synthesize adenosine triphosphate from adenosine diphosphate and inorganic phosphate by using a form of energy. Autotroph: an organism that is able to produce its own. Antibiotic resistance: when a microorganism is able to withstand an antibiotic, can be passed via genes through populations of organisms. Bacteria (eubacteria): a bacterium of a large group typically having simple cells with rigid cell walls and often flagella for movement, group comprises true" bacteria and cyanobacteria. Binary fission: a form of asexual reproduction used by prokaryotes and bacteria, circular dna is replicated, then the cell splits into two identical cells.
