Document Summary

Cutaneous membrane: has two components the epidermis and the dermis, the dermis has a papillary layer and reticular layer, part of the integumentary system, epidermis. Protects the dermis, prevents water loss and the entry of pathogens, and synthesizes vitamin d3. Sensory receptors detect touch, pressure, pain, and temperature: dermis. Has sensory receptors that detect touch, pressure, pain, vibration, and temperature. Blood vessels assist in thermoregulation = reticular layer. Cutaneous membrane: cutaneous respiration is a form of respiration in which gas exchange occurs across the skin rather than the lungs or gills. They occur in many organisms like insects, amphibians, fish, sea snakes, turtles and few mammals too. The skin of such organisms is very special that they are used for breathing. In order to breathe through the skin, it has to be moist for oxygen and carbon dioxide to pass through. Permeable skin: allows materials like liquids pass through, either in or out.
