BIO 2133 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Dna Replication, Karyotype, Drosophila Melanogaster
Document Summary
Know how to define ploidy and identify number of unique chromosomes. Karyotype = shows the chart thing of the chromosomes all lined up. If one has more dna, does not mean that there are more coding genes. Every given position has same gene but maybe different alleles. Banding pattern is marker for the chromosome number, can track chromosome. Even the x and y, called homologous even if they are different. The tips of both are homologous so we count them whatever. When saying big a small a, the letter a is the marker for the chromosome. Semi conservative dna distribution because one is template one is replicated. During replication for division, can incorporate radioactive p into new strands. In a sister chromatid one is made of 1 strand original dna and 1 of newly synthesized dna. Double stranded dna, one strand old one strand new. Different ones, a and a, just assume the bar is double.
