Laboratory 4 is an extension of laboratory 3 that was dedicated to the study of crossing over in crosses between the wild type strain of sordaria fimicola and either one of its mutants with gray and tan ascospores. In laboratory 3, the possibility that the two gene loci associated with the gray and tan colors were linked was not considered as only one locus at a time was assessed. In laboratory 4 you will simultaneously assess both loci so that you must consider the possibility that both can located on the same chromosome (genetic linkage). The present worksheet was largely inspired from glase, j. c. (1995) a study of gene linkage and mapping using tetrad analysis in the fungus sordaria fimicola.
