Narrow, limited spectrum sources of light falls into the category of fluorescence excitation (confocal and multi-photon) So very thin things, standard things, when we just want to look around, just use basic light microscope. When we want to look more carefully, that"s when we get into fluorescence and immunohistochemistry, which amplifies these signals.
