Many things can affect the activity of these enzymes but many are attributable to lived experience (nurture) More similarity between twins at birth than 50 years later. The hpa axis is a key pathway activated in response to stress. Cortisol adapt to stress - uses negative feedback at several steps in order to prevent an over active stress response. Rodents naturally show different levels of maternal care, mimics early life stress in humans. Effects of maternal behaviour are mediated through epigenetic mechanisms. Low licking have more methyl tags added to their dna = more methyl transferase activity, occurring globally. Make less glucocorticoid receptor = less able to turn off stress response more stressed and anxious. These pups go on to be anxious/inattentive parents! Offspring are less anxious, produce less stress hormones and better regulate their stress response. Females go on to become high lick/grooming good" mothers! Objective: define post-transcriptional control and name several specific types of control included.
