Salmon just eat and get really big and put on a lot of fat ,however, whenthey comeback to spawn and they will stop atingas soon as they hit fresh water. They swim 1200 km up stream to the spawining ground onan empty stomach. At then end of their journey they stopo eating fat andthen they eat their protein muscle. As they keep migrating they keep replisnishing their glycogen stores. At different stages intheir reproduction, they use a different energy source. For every glucose that comes in 70% is atp and 30% is lost. When burning it, 70% is lost as heat. We can use heat production to find metabolic rate only if we assume if biosynthesis is small.
