Lecture 4 - why evolution is not perfect. What is the difference between work of extension and total work of extension. Work of extension = work it takes to extend to an amount. Total work of extension = work it takes to break the thing. Strong down beat small upbeat --> muscle difference. Strong down beat and strong upbeat --> both muscles similar size. Teres major in cheetah attached closer to the joint = end of joint is fast but weaker. Muscle contracts --> stores energy --> muscle relaxes and stored energy helps muscle stretch free = no antagonist. Too slow = using more energy than needed to get over a certain amount of ground. Too fast = not perfectly aligned, need to work harder. Elastic storage of energy, makes it so that no increase of energy with speed in hopping. Does not need a second muscle (extensor not there)
