BPS 1101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Teratology, Radithor, Thomas George Roddick
Document Summary
Life expectancy has increased dramatically (started around 1850) Normal to be healthy now in canada, but 150 years ago: expect to be sick all the time. When you got sick, it was serious kind of thing (because you could die from it) Usually not a life threatening kind of thing anymore. Before, pretty much carrying some sort of parasite all the time. Now we don"t really worry about it so much. Also not as common as in 1950s or 1960s. Improved quality of life can be seen in causes of death (canada) You"re going to die from an infection, sick more often, illnesses more severe. Unlikely from infection, die because body will wear out (stroke, cancer, diabetes, traffic accidents, heart disease, etc), respiratory less common now. We use a toilet, we keep in separate, relatively new development. Closed sewers relatively new and better than open. Now we don"t deal with cesspit anymore, you don"t see it.
