Cells get out of control and grow larger. Benign: not something to be certain scared of, but can become life threatening. Malignant: growth is totally out of control, expanding, consumes resources from your body, interferes with body. Life expectancy, we now live long enough that our bodies wear out. 75% of all cases after age 55. Most deaths from cancer are after age 55. Change in us death rates by cause 1950 & 2001. Has improved on other types of illnesses. Get that cancer when young= good chance of survival. Good at treating certain types of cancer. Men tend to get cancer more than women. Uterus cancer rate gone down as well. Tumor= some cell has gotten out of control. Some cell goes rogue and divides uncontrollably. Starts to steal resources or interfere with your body. We have to maintain a specific shape. Occasionally something becomes damaged so then divide. Then lose ability to function and so they die.
