Receptor sticks to messenger and changes shape. 2nd messenger, sets up cascade of processus. Still used, use pheromones to monitor population and still use pesticides. Periplanone is the most potent pheromone known. 75 000 virgin cockroaches to obtain 20 micrograms. Track where they went based on where the cockroaches went. Used for wasps, attracts a wasp because of little shape, Flower looks like the insect and replicates the exact chemical amounts. Sometimes in same eco system, sometimes not. Used in cosmetics as a common preservative. Use female pig (now they use dogs)
