Document Summary

Peak concentration- want to know the highest concentration a drug can reach in the blood stream and when it is happening. Area under the curve- after a certain amount of time how much drug is in the blood stream, tells us a lot about the bioavailability of the drug. Peak height concentration: cm, tmax: time of the peak concentration, auc: area under the blood concentration time curve. Cm peak height concentration: slope of zero, rates of absorption and elimination are equal, used to compare different formulations of a drug. From time 0 to 2 hours we see absorption here. If there is no peak concentration absorption will continue. The curve from 2 hours down to 12 hours is an expression of elimination. If the drug is not being eliminated the absorption curve will continue growing. This means that if the drug peak concentration is below this level it will not have any therapeutic effect.
