Democracy (greek original people should govern themselves) Liberty and equality: flourished in greece for about 200 years then disappeared, came back in the 19th century, did not extended to women or aliens people who were not of greek descent. In early archaic governemtn they had a oligarchy rule by a few: archons: king archon, polemarch, eponymous archon + 6 thesmothetes consisted of 9 archons, responsibility to relgion and law, festivals. Polemarch the war archons: concern with the defense of athens. Eponymous archon: the years are named after a person. 6 thesmothetes: they record the laws but don"t publish them for the public to see, they hold office for 1 year only, after one year they become areopagus council, areopagus council.
