In early archaic governemtn they had a oligarchy rule by a few: archons: king archon, polemarch, eponymous archon + 6 thesmothetes consisted of 9 archons, responsibility to relgion and law, festivals. Polemarch the war archons: concern with the defense of athens. Eponymous archon: the years are named after a person. 6 thesmothetes: they record the laws but don"t publish them for the public to see, they hold office for 1 year only, after one year they become areopagus council, areopagus council.
