Assuming that amulius was evil (because one twin has to be evil), they locked him up: numitor 1st king, had a daughter (named rhea silvia) and some sons, amulius excapes, drives numitor away, and kills his sons. Instead the basket gets caught on the banks where they cry and get discovered by a she-wolf who suckles them: a shepherd, faustulus, comes along while they"re suckled and takes them to his wife who raises them.
