Some archaic authors: hesiod of askra (boiotia, homer, tytaios of sparta, archilochus of paros, solon of athens, anaximander of miletus (prose) Wars: herodotus of halixarnassos: he lived in athens and wrote the histories of the persian, thucydides: he was a military man, and wrote about the peloponnesian war, xenophon: he finished the histories of the peloponnesian war, hellenica. Athens: theatre of dionysos (p. 136: drahma = doing something great. It is written to be performed by actors. It is the theatre of wine, good times and drahma. City dionysia in honour of dionysos: held in march, promoted by peisistratos, encourages polis pride & identity, religious rites, competitions. Drama contests: judges: 1 per tribe (10 tribes, so 10 judges): they were selected by lottery, prizes for actors, writers & producers, 5 day festival, and it held parades. City diodysia (p. 134: day 1: ended with a komos, day 2-4: contests for tragedy & satyr plays, day 5: contests for comedy.
