Hamilcar barca and his three sons start in southern spain and start to conquer while going up north. In 226, they sign a treaty and say the ebro river is the boundary. Carths can have south of river and stay there. Romans have north of river and stay there. Saguntum is a roman ally south of the river. 219, hamilcar barca is dead (drowning) but his son hannibal gets really pissed off, does not want that roman ally. In 218 after a 8 month siege, saguntum falls and romans declare war on carthage, because they have broken the treaty. Romans send troops to a greek city, massillia. Hannibal has 20000 infantry, 6000 cavalry and 37 elephants and crosses the alps in the winter. When he arrives in northern italy (recently conquered by rome), they all go over to hannibal and provide more troops. Ticinum, the romans realize, send an army and meet him at ticinum.
