This was our 2nd lecture on myths of the greek heroes: A significant overlap with a certain bible story: brief excursus on the near eastern elements in greek myth. Excursus on hubris in greek myth and stage tragedy. The myth of the all-female tribe called amazons. They were not greek heroes but sometimes show up as the antagonists of heroes: of bellerophon, heracles, theseus, and achilles. 160 161: sources: a mention in homer"s iliad (circa 750 b. c. ); mentions by the poet pindar (circa 470 b. c. Apollodorus" library: a simple, unadorned tale, probably very old. Small echoes of several other myths: bellerophon is a son of sisyphos [sisyphus]. Sisyphos = the great sinner, page 89, who founded the city of corinth. Sisyphos was the son of aiolos [aeolus], who was a grandson of deukalion [deucalion] after the flood. Bellerophon journeys from corinth to tiryns, under a cloud of having committed manslaughter back home.
