Frankfurt school says you"re being fooled: americanization of culture, movies, entertainment, etc. They talk about materialism which controls our life: pop culture serves the status quo. Seeing chalk in holder: the holder is used too keep chalk kept together: connotative: meaning associated with the thing (ideological meanings) You are always responding to a stimulus in both roles: whoever we"re dealing with has a repository of shared communal experience, but this might not be the same as your own.
