Is primarily and extensively used in the study of developmental psychology, but can be applied whenever you are considering the effects of something across time. The longitudinal research permits a researcher to examine relationships between two events or behaviours in time. Disadvantages: individual changes in development cannot be detected with longitudinal designs. Therefore, differences between younger and older children"s attitudes toward, for example, strangers, media, and airplanes, might not be due entirely to age, but to a singular event that affected each cohort group. In this way, you could assess the show"s initial effectiveness in key demographic markets and determine its staying power for those same age-based markets a year later. Their progress would be measured as they move through the program, at the end of the program, and at a follow-up point. Measurement is taken across time and so, in a sense, this is longitudinal.
