Research design is a design for undertaking empirical. 1) so if you are doing a presentation, so everyone knows how you are defining that concept for the purpose of measuring. *but concepts have to be defined because they are just labels. *concepts exist in and of themselves: academic performance is just a social construct if you seek to use it, you must first define this construct explain what you mean it, how are you measuring it. Side bar: look at papers objectively and ask yourself questions* You can generate insights because they are the toughest things to generate the purpose is that you are creatively solving a problem, it is the most difficult thing to do to generate insight. Knowledge is not innocent, it is a social construct, not only produced but knowledge has to be critiqued and challenged, a goal of research process.
