Lying is a part of our social fabric, and most lies are innocuous. People lie an average of 10 to 200 times a day. People lie more to strangers than to co-workers. Strangers lie three times in first ten minutes of meeting. Married couples lie to each other in one out of every 10 interactions; unmarried couples lie in one out of every three interactions. Even babies children engage in deceptive behaviors (stopping crying to see if anyone is listening). University-age students lie in one out of every five interactions with a parent.
