CMN 2148 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Group Dynamics, Support Group
Document Summary
Last class we learnt about how we"re all different people. Using groups reduces stress and burnout rates: also gives good motivation. You don"t want to disappoint your team: one of the skills employers looks for is the ability to get along with others, depending on the goal, groups can be temporary or permanent. If it"s time sensitive and unknown, bigger groups can be great. 4-6 is often a good number: under time pressure, less diversity is better, social loafing when people don"t put in a lot of energy in a group. Have to work with certain people every day. Not much choice in people/roles: long-standing teams. Similar responsibilities who have been doing the same thing for a long time. More expertise, more predictable: project teams. A task or project that people are woring on. Made for a specific, one-time purpose: prefab groups. More independent, autonomous: task force groups. There are questions between task forces and steering commitees.
