Cultural and value orientations: culture provides way of organizing overall thoughts and patterns of behaviours and beliefs, values form an important core facet of culture, values seen as guiding principles which impact behaviours. 1. individualism to collectivism: masculinity to femininity, uncertainty avoidance, power distance. 5. long term/short term orientation: individualism vs. collectivism. In individualistic cultures, emphasis is placed on individual"s goals, abilities, and aptitudes over those of the group. In contrast, collectivistic futures emphasize values that serve and preserve the in-group by subordinating personal goals. Group membership is more important than individuality; responsibility is shared and accountability is collective: masculinity vs. femininity. Dimension describe how a culture"s dominant values are assertive or nurturing. In masculine cultures, people strive for maximal distinction between gender behaviours and expectations, and greater value is placed on masculine traits. Cultures labelled as feminine are those that permit more overlapping social roles for the exes and place high value on feminine traits: uncertainty avoidance.
