Discourse: refers not only to speech and writing but also the systems of signification (laclau, 2006, we have been socialized into different discourse systems, which contain beliefs about the world. Language and communication style: communication style: how language is used to communicate meaning, gudykunst and ting-toomey (1988) describe four communication styles, direct/indirect, elaborate/succinct, personal/contextual, instrumental/affective. Elaborate and succinct style: refers to the quantity of talk, elaborate style involves use of rich, expressive and embellished language, succinct style involves simple assertions and even silence is valued. Personal and contextual style: concerned with the emphasis on self or on his/her role, personal style amplifies the individual identity of the speaker, contextual style is oriented by status and role. Instrumental and affective style: instrumental style is goal oriented and sender focused, affective style is receiver focused and process oriented. Translation as a barrier to intercultural communication: jandt (2007) identified the following barriers, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, grammatical equivalence, experimental equivalence, conceptual difference.
