This is where we talk about codes of ethics! Codes of ethics: rights of students/ teachers, code of conduct. Ethics: presupposes a human being"s awareness of the right thing to do. Evaluates human conduct as reflective of moral values. Aims at integrating/ balancing personal values with institutional community obligations. Goal of ethics: to improve society as well as the individual. Cides and lists reflect general principles which may be rooted in: Help to protect the public from unethical performance. Provide a reference point that can be invoked to protect media workers from internal pressures that could force them to violate their own consciences. A guide which can only become operative if the journalist is endowed with a moral sense, not a legal document! Codes issued by government are nothing but executive orders. National, adopted by one or several professional associations. Those issued by associations of media owners or by unions or by associations of news people.
