Cult of work = labour force is working to achieve the aims of the authorities, exploiting the work (doesn"t necessarily benefit society as a whole, or the working class) Ir/work are not bad things in themselves, need to look at the conditions and context of emergence and context of ir/work. Different rationalities that exist ir is not the only one that exists. Problem with ir is that it has been universalized and other forms of rationalities have been put aside, viewing ir as the only form of rationalization that exists. Communicative action underlines the importance of public debate. Readings: concept of public sphere and apply it to case studies. Guidelines for readings in syllabus (for quiz, summarize readings in one or two pages). Everything must be measured against conditions, under which and in which something exists. Intuitional frame gives work its form, deciding how work operates. Habermas argues they come from society (value systems) rather than from the work itself.
