Tensions arise over: the meaning of work the land provides food, shelter and spirituality that defines their traditional society and is central to their life world. System (scientific knowledge, presentation of numerical values, environmental impact assessment) + lifeworld (traditional environment knowledge, idle no more) Totalizing ideologies in the system is capitalism that are difficult for citizens to understand. Policy system (omnibus bill) corporate ideology (enbridge advertising campaigns they were misleading about risks) Non-violent actions: demonstrations, protests, petitions, crowdfunding, social media engagement. What are endorsing matters (are you a good consumer vs. a radical?) Work of arts in public sphere - red dress project + faceless dolls project. Grassroots movements (idle no more, stolen sisters) Using voice to materialize these missing women. Dominant discourse can shift and needs to be re-contextualized and brought back in to main public sphere (ex. pipeline has been overtaken by legalization of marijuana but both are public spheres just smaller/bigger)
