CRM 2310 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Child Abuse, Adderall, Ketamine
Document Summary
We will be heavily criticizing the war on drug users. We criminalize certain drugs based on who uses them not on their e ects: there is no basis in the logic, their e ects are all very similar and comparable to psycho-pharmaceuticals. Users are committed to non-normative lifestyles: these people are exceptional others fundamentally unlike us, majority of users aren"t addicted and they are professionals with families. Certain drugs are naturally worse than others. Drugs are obtained through predatory pushers contagion theory: most people are interested or curious in the drugs thats why they us them, or others want to ll a void. Enslavement hypothesis once you use drugs, you will be instantly addicted: will become more and more enslaved to the drug and you will be forced to move to. Harder drugs to get the desired e ect: ex: crack vs. powdered cocaine crack is associated with marginalized people and powdered cocaine is associated with rich, white people.
