The definition of parole is: it"s a period of conditional supervised release in the community following a prison term. In canada, we have mandatory release provision or the board grants release to someone. There are other types of releases: family, work, etc. This also includes people who are sentenced to parole after they are released - 1, 2, or 3 years of probation. It refers to any release at any set time post custodial release aspect of it. For example, in usa, you lose your right to vote forever. Jerrymanagering is defined as: (recording) - the party in power will change the boundaries (recording): punishment vs. treatment - whether the sentence or a criminal justice system should be punitive or treatment orientated or not. The paradox of parole is punitive or treatment orientated (recording): recidivism is defined as 4 factors: re-arrest, reconviction, resentenced to prison, returning for a previous or new sentence.
