Drug courts aim to keep addicts out of prison. Costs 1/10th of what ordinary prison will cost. 2005 2010 incarceration rate dropped 9%, crime rate dropped 12. 8% Graduates are less likely to commit crime. Election indictable offences possible sentences of 5 years imprisonment or more. Jury selection 4 step process (1) assemble list of eligible jurors (an array) (2) remove those that are not eligible. Police officers, lawyers, people with offenses within 5 years, law teachers, medical practioner, fulltime student, esl etc. you may be exempt from jury duty (3) summons a jury panel from the list. Ignoring jury summons is a criminal offence (4) in-court selection process. Relationship with accused, previously convicted, non-citizen, bias etc. The jury tries the facts and determines guilt. Banned from asking questions of witnesses (but may ask judge) Don"t give reasons for their verdict (you could face a criminal sanction if you disclose the information)
