Attentive to the strengths and limitations of theories. Despite the fact that these three theorists have similar methodologies, they all discovered very different aspects to crime: contradictory reality claims, different images of criminals, historical reference points for ideological currents that continue to influence criminology. Levels of emphasis (micro vs. macro: garofalo vs. durkheim vs. bonger. All affiliated with a certain level of analysis (garofalo = micro, Bonger focused on injustices and the power related differentials in society. Despite their similar methods of gathering information, their results were all quite different. Right vs. left: we as observers, need to be aware of what is informing various definitions. Conclusion: conflicting images leave us to ponder what crime really is, may not necessarily have one singular answer, as it depends on the theoretical or social aspects.
