Document Summary
Anomie: significant here because we recognize the ways in which people might be struggling, (cid:498)whatever(cid:499) When we use the term (cid:498)whatever(cid:499) in response to a comment, we are expressing disregard or disinterest for the statement or the person who made the statement. When we are taking into consideration what durkheim was drawing our attention to, we see that there is a sense of disconnect: normlessness. Causes a great deal of confusion which causes people to become disinterested: absence of values confusion. Durkheim was worried about people becoming disconnected and disinterested with society. Suicide: happening at a higher rate when there were high levels of anomie. Anomie: pathological state of organic society: for durkheim, as much as he saw this an inevitable condition of societal shift, he was concerned with the pathological state. Inequality: normal and inevitable: comes to bear in terms of suicide, something inevitable in our society, given the social structure that we have in our society.
