Motivations and trends: youth are becoming more and more uninterested in joining the police force, the recruitment process can be discouraging. Dangerousness: the mortality rates for police officers are lower than that for other fields of work, however, the potentiality of violence and/or risk of assault are higher for police officers. Basic qualifications: high school diploma, physical test (varies by province), hearing tests, vision tests. Pre-employment education programs: only about 30% of people who receive their certificate go on to become police officers, this means that it is not a requirement. It can assist in moving up in the ranks of the police force. Training: the length of the training will vary across the province which brings up the question of what is better, new recruits sometimes have to pay for their own training. This may be a disincentive to join the police force: some provinces will include a polygraph test as part of the recruitment process.
