Upon entrance to a federal penitentiary they"ll do an assessment to target your deficits. These behaviours aren"t criminal but you will be treated differently based on your answers. Actuarial > collection and measurement of data (statistical/ mathematical) Responsibilization of prisoners > to fix self, accept tools and use them to show you"re trying to get better. If they reoffend then it puts the blame on them > we gave you the tools, you just weren"t good enough . Want to rehabilitate and also keep people safe > so they rehabilitate based on risk. Static risk factors: things you can"t change eg. past crimes, race, hometown. To figure out needs - look at deficits and fix them. Some things corrections can"t fix e. g. the life they"re going back to: community, housing. Effective treatment strategy > not giving everyone the same treatment > individualized. Problem: individualized, look at person and base it on stats and groups.
