Learning experience: learning about yourself and also some view the counselor as some sort of teacher. Ex. some professionals bash psychiatrists because they prescribe pills for example. Labels ex. men labelled as aggressive or anti-social. This use of label is a kind of objectification of peoples experiences. This label becomes the master status for them. So you"re putting them in a position of linguistic suffering on top of their life suffering. So everything they do they associate with their pathology. They ignore any behavior that is not compatible with that pathology. It"s one directional so it says that they need to adapt to society and not that society should adapt to them. Taming the shrew: regulating prisoners through women-centered mental health. Programs are designed to counter criminal though and patterns and to reconstruct the offenders ways of thinking because they are seen as unable to logically think, reason appropriately and to make rational decisions.
