He is very obsessed with the emergence of institutions. He wanted to know why people with mental issues were so stigmatized. Or why people in general are stigmatized and why there are norms. He studied deviance and why people were deviant if they strayed from norms. He wanted to look at the past to figure out why. He also studied the e(cid:373)erge(cid:374)(cid:272)e of the state. He did (cid:374)ot flourish i(cid:374) the (cid:1010)0"s a(cid:374)d (cid:1011)0"s because his writing was really hard to read. In 1992 the foucault effect was published which is when he grew in popularity. Prior to the 16th century treaties as advice to the prince on how to govern people. Mid 16th century to the end of the 18th century: art of the go(cid:448)er(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t (it (cid:449)as(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:374)sidered advice anymore, it was called the art of the government): Government of oneself: how to conduct the behaviour of ones self.
