Punitive responses: emphasizing punishing as a prevention to crime. Crime comes from all kinds of origins, and there is a strategy in criminology to deal with each origin. Preventing crime: deterring does not necessarily work - it is a very simple means of dealing with human nature. Deter offenders from recidivating: people are punishment as a mechanism from committing crime again. Reduce opportunities for crime commission: make things harder to steal, make certain environments less alienating, bring more people on the street so it is more guarding, etc . From 1963 to 2013, crime has increased gradually and decreased gradually. This trend could be due to the war on drugs : 1963: 3,022, 1969: 4,737, 1991: 10,342, 2013: 5,191. Seriousness of crime has been decreasing over the years. According to garland, one thing that makes up a society is the crime rate. Crime has become a politicized social problem: crime and crime control has become politicized.
