Tharp: schizophrenic, released to halfway house and two weeks worth of meds, 3 months later stopped taking meds, robbed a pharmacy and then went back to jail. Need a good support system when you get released. 700 000 being released: half are mentally ill. Re-entry programs: help mentally ill get back into the community, severe mental illness or psychotic mental illness, ones who need anti-psychotic meds, get mental health treatment and see psychiatrists once every two weeks. All they ask is that they are trying to make steps towards getting out of there. No drugs and have to take a breathalyser upon entry. Psychiatric treatment is not there or very poor and they only get 1-2 weeks worth of meds when released. Benny anthony: wants protective custody, classic repeat offender, even medicated, he still struggles with paranoia and thinks people are trying to kill him, retail theft, trespass, urinating in park, etc, homeless, assault.
