Race continues to exist because of cultural racism. No longer biologically influenced, now there are cultural explanations: others are culturally inferior. Cultural racism is racism that prevents being caught through language of culture and nationalism: concealed racisms. Mainstream society (white) is culturally appropriate and normal that needs to protect itself from inferior culture and potential enemies: other cultures are viewed as incompatible with mainstream culture. Cultural racism links race with nationhood, patriotism and nationalism. When used, race will not be mentioned: it is discrete racism. Assumes other cultures are very different so need to protect ourselves. Racialized minority groups are blamed for social wrongs and other problematic things: no longer called visible minorities. Assuming that immigrants don"t want to work hard. Assuming there are canadian values and immigrants are the only ones who don"t uphold them. Historically based on the eradication of the indigenous people. Racism used to justify the stealing of their land.
