Canada"s criminal court system: supreme court of canada, highest court in the land, historians, legal academics, etc. say that the highest court in the land is. Parliament because they"re able to override it in a variety of ways, such as changing the law. In bill c-75 they"re trying to eliminate this: some bail matters, used to be heard from the justices of the peace, there"s more people here waiting trial than others in jail. Definitions: "valid criminal law purpose, a public purpose like public peace, order, security, health, morality; or, a public purpose must involve suppressing an evil or safeguarding a threatened interest. Classification of offences: 3 types of offences, summary conviction. Indictable (exact opposite of summary: more serious offences, significantly higher penalty range, full, more formal criminal trial procedure (e. g. jury trials) If there"s a limitation period + it goes over, you cannot be charge: mostly because memory isn"t accurate.
