DVM 2105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Jeffrey Sachs, Least Developed Countries, Neo-Marxism
Document Summary
Looking at sao paolo as an example, though it is the biggest and most developed city in brazil, it has an extreme mix of both development and poverty within it"s borders. There is extreme diversity within the third world, a country could house one of the leading industries of this world but, could also have a very dire poverty population. For example, india: sophisticated industries and high/middle classes but, also very devastating poverty. There is vast diversity not only in it"s people but, also in political systems, there are monarchies, authoritarian leaderships, parliaments, etc. Every rich country has its poor area and every poor country has it"s rich area. In rural areas, people tend not to have access to areas like markets, thus causing them to have to use middle men. There are increasingly very few areas of the world that are isolated of markets, news, information, etc.
