Globalization and Neoliberalism
-wealth is concentrated in Europe and USA
-the growth of emerging markets has been most impressive
-China now accounts for a 5th of the world’s wealth where is was nonexistent before
-the considerable economic importance of the base and middl sections of the wealth pyramid
should not be overlooked
-this 39 trillion dollars accounts for much of the wealth in the world
-global wealth is projected to grow at an annual rate of 6.5% and US will remain the
predominant economy
-globalization and globality are different; in need of making the distinction to assess the impact
of these factors on international development
-globalization is
-a process started from the 13th-17th century onward, moving always
-an instrumental venue to create something new
-compression of time and space/interconnectedness
-linking of localities to globalities around the world
-glocaliation: a new global public sphere (social sphere)
-enlargement of worldwide communication/deterritorialization
-public sphere is communitarian and serves the social life and values
-the process of globalization by interconnected us with everyone around the world has created
a global public sphere
-everyone is able to share their grievances and concerns with one another
-territories and boundaries are of less importance
-globality is
-global and not transitional
-world is a single place as opposed to a world marked by single places
-refers to the end result of globalization
-a process that leads us to a new condition of life
-globalization and globality are linked and cannot be studied separately
-globality is conditional and its direction is questioned
-when we speak of development is it all based on territories
-perspective are based in want for private property (greed)
-it is naive to argue that we need to define globalization based on one culture’s way of life
-it undermines all social reflections and diversity
-conditions of globality must be revisited in order to be beneficial to peripheries
-the condition of globality signals a need to move away from the condition we are currently at
-steps used in the process of globalization that have led us to where we are now
-colonialism
-international trade based on national identity

-sharing of telecommunications and technology
-the process of globalization has created changes in every sphere of life and is used to create
further changes
